High Oil Consumption

Hello all please help.

My 1.9 TD was consumig large amounts of oil (~1L/1000km) and I was lead to believe that it was the turbo. After I replaced the turbo, all was good for 2 weeks. After this time I was seeing the same oil consumption as before.

The turbo is OK, I had it checked out by the guy I bought it from. He thinks the oil is coming from the crankcase vent because the oil is on the intake side of the turbo and in the crankcase hose.

Can oil pass through the turbo from the turbo oil line? Or is the oil found on the turbo intake and compressor side from the crank case?

Can I run with a rag stuffed into the crankcase hose? This way I can monitor the oil consumption and determine if it's the turbo. I've got a new crank case vent and will install it tonight.

...i have the same problem, mine doesn't have oil consumption ....but i can find oil around compressor and turbo.....i really don't know why.
You can check if there is any oil in the air filter case.
.....just wondering, how much u paid for the crankcase vent? :roll:

The crankcase vent will always drool some oil into the intake. It doesn't take much oil to make a big mess. Mine consumes little oil (0.5L in 10000km and is always wet throughout the intake tract.

You can remove the crankcase vent hose from the intake tube for testing but DO NOT plug it. If you plug or restrict the crankcase vent, pressure will build up in the crank case and you will have lots of leaks. Connect a hose to it and rout it into an open topped catch can so you can monitor the amount of oil blown out. The hole in the intake tube should be plugged so that unfiltered air is not drawn in while you do your testing. Make sure your plug fits tightly, you don't want it sucked into your turbo.
