Im a diesel mechanic but i am new to the little 1.9s. what i am going to do is hopefully put one in my samurai. I need to know what is best engine to get 200hp+ and still be driveable every day. I here alot about the AAZ engines witch are mechanical engines and i like. But what would be better a AAz or a TDI ALH the ones with a vnt turbos??? are the AAZs direct or indirect injection.
you do know that the samurai tranny implodes at anything over 130 hp , don't you ?
btw the tracker tranny is good for maybe 150 hp
yea, and lots of torwue is going to rip the transmissions apart faster. do your self a favor and bolt a AAZ and a W56 toyota 5 speed together and slap it in the sami. then you wont be limited on the power you can build just because you have a weak transmission.
AAZ is a good Diesel for the trail since there is no electronics involved in making it work, GP's and Starter and Fuel Cut off thats It. I would take the AAZ because you can increase the boost, and fuel on the trail without needing to retune your ECU...NO ECU
AAZ- 1 wire to run.
TDI- ?? wires to run?
if it were me, i would do the AAZ, but thats just me. and i hate wiring. i can do it, and im rather good at it, but i HATE WIRING!
My First MK3 that I put the AAZ in it...Motor in car, Temp sensor hooked up for the rad fans to come on. Main wire From Battery to Starter, Wire from Battery to Push Bottom inside back to Starter. Wire from Fuel Cut off to Switch to Battery. and a Wire from the GP's to a botton to the battery. It was the best.
AAZs are indirect injection. If you do go that route, investigate the crank gear problem. A quick search will let you know what that is all about.
If you are going to be burying this thing in the mud I'd go with either a mTDI or an AAZ. Electronics and water don't get along as I'm sure you know.
