mk1 Window Seal Channel Molding Sources?
« on: September 10, 2009, 08:45:32 pm »
I'm trying to find the plastic molding that slides into the channels on mk1 window seals.  Aside from one NOS seller on eBay at ~$25/foot I can't seem to find this stuff specific to VW anywhere, including the local dealer - who says it's discontinued.  Does anyone have a non-OEM solution for this, or know of a reasonably priced source for the real thing?  Thanks in advance..

I'm not sure about exactly what you are looking for.  Something like this: http://www.spaenaur.com/view_pdf.asp?Page=K16?

If you click the previous or next at the top you may find different styles.

Yes - like that -- the stuff you jam into the channel that pushes the seal around the window evenly.  Thanks for the link; looks promising.

GEE-BEE, you're right.  Mk1 Autohaus has original seal channel inserts.  Of course they're charging $110 for a few feet of cheap plastic...

Rabbitparts.com has them, but I can't speak to the quality. Kinda spendy though, which is why my bunny still leaks like a sieve

I have gotten a few parts from Mk1 Autohaus, and the fitment was superb, but the price was awful $30 for a u-joint shaft boot, but it was the only place I could find it

The link I sent you is for a bolt and nut supply place in Ontario, Canada.   I would see if there are any bolt and nut supply places near you that carry similar parts.  These guys do a lot of parts for body shops, etc.    A guy I work with built up a kit Cobra and got all his weatherstrip and trim from them and said it was about 1/4 of the price of the kit suppliers.

Thanks for the info.  That seems like it's definitely the way to go.  I'm amazed these pieces aren't a Prothe special
