Success! After some super sleuthing on the internet, I found out that the CEY transmission is, in fact, correct for the early (1990 - 93) Canadian Passat TD AAZ. Since these cars were never imported into the States, there is a dearth of information (actually, no information at all - they do not seem to exist in any database!) about this transmission. However, these transmissions were used in Canada and Europe.
With the help of my parts guy (Kris at VM autohaus), we found the gear ratios in the European section of ETKA 7. So here they are, the transmission gear ratios for the 02A, CEY code gearbox:
1st 34/9 = 3.778
2nd 36/17 = 2.118
3rd 39/29 = 1.345
4th 33/36 = 0.917
5th 33/46 = 0.717
final drive 71/18 = 3.944
On my car I’m wishing for lower rpms on the highway, and would like at some point to swap in a .681 or .658 gear. The .681 probably doesn’t make enough of a difference (5%) for it to be worthwhile, the .658 (9%) swap need a modified spring plate. More info
hereHere’s an excellent thread with some good info (Mk IV TDI ALH)
