Is there any specific rule to set idle RPM?
I am asking this because my oil light started flickering after it has warmed up during idle.
I am hoping that it is just the oil sender or the idle RPM setting, because the next option would be to overhaul :cry:
I will try to install a oil pressure guage to verify if the oil pressure during idle. Other than I dont have any other option.

what do you mean?
I'm using a vic C-407 for the primary and C-506 for the bypass. It's the same type that was orginally installed.

I just meant that sometimes a bad oil filter can cause oil pressure problems but if you're using OE filters then that shouldn't be a problem.

I put mine at about 700rpm. I figured to set it as low as it would idle smoothly, to reduce fuel usage at idle. The oil pump is a positive displacement pump, right? So the flowrate should be porportional to the rpm, and it will still get oil whenever the engine is turning, just less, and therefore less back pressure on the pump. And since there is very little stress on the engine at idle, compared to driving, a lower flow rate should be okay, in my thinking. If you run synthetic oil, or if the engine is really hot, it will also be thinner and reduce pressure. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
I also have a vernier throttle, which allows me to reset the idle higher if I need to (to warm up I usually set it to 1000rpm or a little higher)

I knew you had that engine :wink: , but you might want to put your vehicle/engine info in your signature in your profile to avoid future potential confusion.

:wink: fspGTD ok
I was able to connect a mechanical oil pressure guage last night. when I started the engine the pressure slowly went up to 35psi at cold idle, why? it's suppose to go up almost immediately. I am thinking maybe it's clogged or the oil pump is bad anyone has an idea?
If the any of the bearings are bad then shouldn't it go immidiately to a certain lower psi instead of going "slowly" to 35psi?

my rule of thumb;
turn it down till the change in the dash cubby is hopping up and down, then turn it up a tick.
