This ol rabbit
« on: September 02, 2009, 03:38:48 pm »
Just got a 81 rabbit diesel about a month ago. Put ac in it (that was fun) blows nice and cold tho. But now i have a couple questions.
car has 150k on it.

She smokes on off idle light throttle acceleration.
I bought a set of injectors w fresh nozzles that i was gonna put on today but alas i dont have the right socket. What size is it?
i did crack the lines 1 by 1 today. 1 2 and 3 got the same responce. #4 would drop when i cracked it then when i tightened it it took a second to catch again. Can the injectors get "lazy" over time and not want to open? Also i pulled the injector return line with the engine running and nothing was coming out. reved it up some and still nothing. should i be getting some fuel out of there? Last but not least is it the 2 bolts on the pump flange and the 1 on the back that you loosen to adjust timing?

Thank you much guys!

injector socket is 27mm deep, you will have to bend the return line barb a bit to get it to fit, be gentle you don't want to break it off. Run the engine up to temp and push towards it with your flexshaft or breaker bar if you pull you may crack the head. It seems my return is always flowing a lot of diesel, so I think that may be trouble. I will have to leave the rest of your questions to those with a bit more experience though.

good luck

There's actually 3 bolts on the flange plus the one in the back, the 3rd one you can get through a hole in the sprocket.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
