What VNT and exh. manifold combo?
« on: September 01, 2009, 03:11:31 am »
Later on, I'd like to set up a VNT on the van. Most of them I see have integrated exhaust manifolds, but cruising Ebay, there's a seller in Germany (cars-and-trucks-parts) that stocks many European turbos, and I see a few standalone VNT units.

Ideally, I'd like to keep my top-mount turbo setup, as a bottom-mount in a Vanagon ends up roughly level with the axles, and I'd like to avoid dipping the turbo in puddles if possible.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a VNT/manifold combo that would work on the tipped-over AAZ? I currently have the trapezoidal AAZ mani, and i'm looking at a triangular one as well. Several of the VNTs on Ebay have the triangle mount, but I can't get a good mental picture of how they would orient on a top-mount. I'd have to clock both hot and cold sections, to maintain oil-drain-on-bottom positioning, and for intake connections.

Or am I whizzing into the wind here?... ???

Only the longitudinal TDi engines (Passat's ect) have demountable turbos and the PD130's are good for decent power too!. you could flip the manifold, clock the turbo and everything would be dandy!

I have one to sell but it's already spoken for up to now, if you want any measurements give me a shout!

These are good as they also clear the stock mk3 golf engine mounts!

no drilling/tapping needed on the GT18V for definate and the Gt1749VA looks very similar with regards a completely separate centre section to the housings. The Gt1749V would need the mods you describe.

I dont have a standard manifold to check clearance so you may be correct, I'll get some pics next time i'm bored!
