CE1 rev counter in to CE2 clocks
« on: August 25, 2009, 11:48:18 am »
i've got a diesel instrument cluster from a late spec mk2 golf gtd with a rev counter that i was hoping to fit in to my early jetta, rather than going through all the hassle of changing my wiring loom to suit the clocks could i not just fit the rev counter in to my cluster (the jetta cluster is a petrol one) and run the wiring for that separately from the wiring to the rest of the cluster? i've read that its just the W terminal wire that goes to the rev counter, so would it just be a case of running that wire straight to a wire on the tach?

if not then what other options do i have?

i posted this in the general section by mistake the other day and only just realized, if a mod could delete the other thread please? sorry for the mess up :-X

Your best, and easiest option would be to find a set of CE1 clocks from a Golf GTD.

If your car is a Factory Diesel, it should have the wire from the W trerminal already in the one of the 2 plugs for the clocks.

the car is originally a petrol, it does have most of the engine bay loom but the rest of wiring is still the original one from the car. i've been trying to find some one breaking an early gtd but with no luck. i only have about 3 weeks left before a rolling road day i'm going to and i was hoping to do the governor mod before then so i was looking for other options. as i had these late clock i thought i might be able to some how use that.

Here is one of your other options, a gasser tachometer:

It's a bit complicated, though.

Try searching the IDI forums for "gasser tach"

yeah i've seen that before but way to complicated for me, i just thought as i already have the diesel rev counter and the W termial wire it would be pritty simple?

It should be pretty simple then.

Look at the backs of the CE1 and the CE2 clusters, at the printed circuit. If they look the same where they connect to the tach, then it should work in your existing cluster.
