11mm head problems

Just added an 11mm head to my bosch 9mm pump.
Used the;

11mm head
11mm plunger
11mm control collar
and the rest i used the 9mm parts, camplete, return springs etc.

Seems to have less power now than it did with the 9mm head and more smoke?

Have i missed something?

Few more details;

I used the little shim at the foot of the plunger from the 9mm pump as it seemed to be the same thickness as the one from the 11mm pump.

I have a boost leak but surely i should have expected some performance increase over the 9mm head despite the boost leak?

pretty sure you need to use 11mm pump springs aswell...least that's what I was told...I'm gathering parts for my 11mm pump conversion too...all I bought was the pump head and the springs..

Im not using the 11mm camplate so i thought you always used the springs that came with the camplate as they were matched? So in my case i use the 9mm springs cos im using a 9mm camplate?
Feel free to correct me if im wrong i just want my pump working as best i can  :)

no, use the 11mm springs, the 11mm head is alot heavier than the 9mm head. those springs are there to make sure its making a full stroke. you need to get the springs for the 11mm stuff. and the cam plate is not specific to the 9mm pump. the cam plates themselves come in different lifts and things like that.

You need the correct springs for the head... Other wise you end up with a floating plunger that never actually travels the full length of the bore.


You could always send it to me and get back a pump that works..   ;D

Thanks guys, so to reiterate;

i need the 11mm return springs to match the head and the springs do not match the camplate as i first thought?

Zukgod - this pump does work, albeit not as well as it could lol
11mm pumps are everywhere in scrapyards over here, even 12mm heads as well....

What are the consequences of the plunger not travelling the full length of the bore?
Pump not delivering as much fuel as it could or are there other consequences?

Oh dear, Ive done the same.....
The symtoms I put down to a turbo which I put on at the same time, I got a very good a torque increase at low revs but up high past 4.5k the car just doesnt do as well.
I definately read on here that the springs must match the camplate????

It will idle poorly, wont burn clean as it should. High rpm will be less even with the Gov mod done correctly.

Overall its very hard to get it to run good without the correct springs in there.

Get the heaver springs for the 11mm head ASAP.

Costs me roughly £40 sterling to buy the pumps on average....

I think a IP would fit in a flat rate USPS box and ships international for $30-$40???(IRC) but if you're shipping to the usa I guess that wont help... :P

hahaha thats funny.....I dont think 11mm or 12mm pump is settling...thats a bad ass set-up...anybody should be stoked for a pump like that?? ;D
