Just swapped a 1.6 GTD into a caddy to replace a NA. I've ran about 300 miles now and have everything nearly sorted out. I'm running a 4speed now and garrett T2 with intercooler along with all the important gauges. I'm new to turbo diesels and was wondering if my gauge values seem about right. This is with stock fuel settings on my GTD pump. The smoke screw is all the way in and can not be turned further without removing the collar. This is how it came so i'm assuming it is stock. It makes a tiny puff of smoke when you stomp it but no haze at all at any point along the power band. I want to make sure I am okay on my stock gauge settings before I start messing with the fueling.
On completely flat highway at 70 mph, my boost is running about 3 psi, preturbo EGT's about 500 after reworking my airdams, oil temp at 250 F, oil pressure 30 psi. I'd like to have a tach but i don't have a "W" terminal and I don't want to screw with it right now. Oil temp of 250 seems a tad high to me but it is hot here now and it drops to about 220 when i get off of a sustained 70 mph.
I have a 5 speed in the garage that I need to have rebuilt. anyone recommend anyone to do it? Should I try it myself? Which specialty tools will I need that I can't easily fab? thanks.
You're oil temp is higher and you're oil pressure is lower than I'd like to see.
it's actually about 35 psi after I looked again. I know the oil temp is too high. I ordered a remote oil cooler today to install. wonder if the oil pressure would be more appropriate if the temp was cooler. it is about 90 psi when i first start it
