Modifying Gasser Cluster for Diesel
« on: August 23, 2009, 04:06:58 pm »
I have a MK3 Silver Faced Cluster and I want to convert it to put it in a Diesel. I read the thread about it and it looks to only apply to the older clusters.

I think the MKIII clusters are all solid-state with PCBs, I've never seen anyone post mods to them... Shame, too, those are nice gauges, I have that cluster in my wife's '98 Jetta Wolfie.

just get a "dakota digital adapter, DSL-1"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DAKOTA-DIGITAL-DIESEL-TACH-TACHOMETER-ADAPTER-DSL-1_W0QQitemZ250437134521QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3a4f3768b9&_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116

I used one in my aaz/gasser swap it was a joke to wire in and works perfect, then you can use as many different gasser cluster's as your heart desires. I plan to move my swap from my MK3 to a corrado eventually so this allowed me to keep the swap functional yet portable from shell to shell.

Nice. I was looking at those a while ago..but ended up adapting a MKII diesel tach into the Vanagon instrument cluster.

How hard is it to calibrate?

It was really easy to sync/ setup.......just follow the instructions and set the 4 switches to set range as per instructions ( i choose 800-900 rpm), then use the 2 push buttons to calibrate up or down, within the range selected. It was very simple.
