Help with aaz IP problem
« on: August 17, 2009, 07:39:45 am »
93 Passat, drove fine yesterday, would not start this morning.  No fuel being drawn into IP.  Solenoid clicking, so I assume it works.  When I pulled and drained filter I found water, small amounts of veg oil/glycerin (hard to tell) and grime.  I run washed bio about 50% of the time.  I assume I have some contaminate in the injection pump that has now solidified.  I plan on changing the filter, topping up with clean diesel, and first try warming up the IP to operating temps and seeing if that frees up the blockage.  Failing that I think I would pull the solenoid and make sure it is actually working fine (I can hear it clicking now), but I assume that it must be some sort of blockage as it worked without issues for 100+miles and nothing this morning.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ian

Follow-up.

Turned out to be the fuel shut-off solenoid.  Replaced it with one from a parts car and runs like a champ again!  Thank for all who helped!  ;)

don't feel bad, I ran new fuel lines and replaced my glowplugs to find out it was the fsos. I did the vince walden mod to the plug wires while I was at it. On the up side, I taught my son (he's 4) how to tighten bolts, and he started the bolts on the glowplugs for me.

That's amazing for a little kid t be able to do that, he's definately gonna be either a good mechanic or a surgeon with the talent he's developing now ;)
