Anyone ever run or have any experience with the Isuzu 2.3TD troopers from the late 80's? I saw a southern one for sale rust free and was wondering about it. I am pretty sure Isuzu has there act together as far as diesels engines go.
I know that the 1.8 from the Chevette is a good motor. It is pretty quick (relative) too
X2 on the Vette diesel being good

The 2.2 in the Chevy Luv / Isuzu Pup was equally as good.. Shame the rest of the truck was crap.. I think the Luv engine was fairly similar to the Trooper engine.. On the industrial level Isuzu engines also seem to perform well... THe Chevy Tilt Cab / Isuzu NPR trucks have a great track record of milage and longevity.. Heck even take a look at how the Duramax has been doing... It;s roots are with Isuzu..
My 1981 2-45 White Tractor sports a 2.4 non turbo Isuzu which has been top notch.. Almost 10,000 hours and still doesn;t use oil... It is hard to start, always has been since new.. Apparently there was an updated cylinder head starting in '83 that fixed this..
Thie nice thing is, since Isuzu and GM were connected for so many years I've found that most routine replacement parts have been rather easily available and not hideously expensive....
A good friend of mine has one of those, I think he has approx 250k on it and still going strong.
darn good engine, our local cheby dealer has the Isuzu truck as a tow truck. The truck has taken a lot of abuse but it still has plenty of snot.
