Is it possible to fit a PD crank into a 1Y diesel (that will have a big blower attatched!!) to get rid of the crappy crank pulley. I know the AHU/1Z crank fits but i'd like to go a little further.
Would the rods fit too?
Cheers!

Not sure about the main journals, but the PD crank will have larger bearing journals than the 1Y. That means you will have to use PD rods. However, the PD rods will have larger pin ends than the pistons in your 1Y (25 vs. 24mm) or something like that. Also, the PD crank has a sprocket built into it for running the chain driven oil pump. In other words, it would probably be more trouble than its worth. You could either convert your crank nose to accept the newer style pulley, or use a friction washer between the standard pulley and the crank nose. These are supposed to make all the difference.
What is a 1Y motor ?
Iam in the U.S. and I have never heard of this type...
Thanx for the reply

its a european TDI engine. we never got them.
oh yea huh? my bad, im so not even close to awake yet, just got out of bed a few minutes ago. was up late last night building boost controllers. the 1y has that ***in intake that looks similar to a gasser one right?
Would the best upgrade just be a crank from an AHU then without massive machining?
I'm just looking at building a nice strong engine on a low budget as i've never built an engine myself!
The 1Y intake is sweet!
Thanks
