Where can you buy heat shields?
« on: August 07, 2009, 03:09:27 am »
Like the subjects says, I seem to be having trouble find these in my local area (utah) and the places ive been to all seem think the old ones are re-usable, including bosch dealers. Dealership around here don't sell any parts older than 15 years. Are TDI heat shields the same? Or what about Prothe? Those any good?
Thanks for any advice

TDIs use copper washers, completely different. I wouldn't trust anything but OEM. Not that it's a very high precision piece but if it doesn't perform as required it will overheat your injector and could clog the injector area up with carbon making it very difficult to remove, which in a worse case scenario would crack the injector boss when you try and take the injector out

Thanks! I was working and i had a sudden realization that tdi's don't have the pre-chamber like the idi so they probably don't even have that style heat shield. So please excuse that absent minded question. ::)
Yeah good thing theyre cheap, I'll buy plenty of extras.
Also, I found a good way to remove the heat shields. What you do is get a coat hanger bend it the very tip ( just enough so it passes through the hole but snags when you pull it. Put a big socket on it and you've got yourself a slide hammer! Worked pretty damn good. Hope that contributes something.
