•  So I know from the engine code one can figure out what engine is installed in a vehicle but mine is nearly impossible to see. What was done to a TD to make it Eco diesel and what is the major physical difference between the two. Thanks for your input.

• EcoDiesels have a catalytic converter and an injection pump minus a boost enrichment device, essentially an NA pump. There is no LDA on top of the pump. In place of the LDA on top of the pump there is a ~2" adapter for the fuel line. The engine code is 1Y and they have a K14 turbo (99.9% of them anyway).

• IIRC the Eco-TD also had a 8 mm plunger head, while at least the majority of N/As had 9 mm.
  So, the Eco is in need of a pump upgrade if you want to tune it

  How big is the plunger in a 1983 1.6 T/D pump?

  That is correct, I forgot about that, mine is an 8mm. An 83 1.6TD should be 9mm. Check the Bosch number on the pump, 0 460 4XX XXX, The 6th digit indicates the plunger size, 8 = 8mm, 9 = 9mm, 0 = 10mm etc..

• most n/a's just used 9mm pump heads. i think only the Eco used an 8mm pump. all the 1.5's ive played with had 9mm pumps.

• Thanks for all the imput folks! Looks like I have the regular old Turbo "Kerosene Queen". With 262000km I should be good for a long ,long time, seeing as my 8V is over 400000km and hardly uses a bit of oil(more leaks out than it burns). Mark
