ACL turbo engine - heavy oil consumption.
« on: June 19, 2004, 09:12:10 pm »
I have the ACL turbo diesel hi-torq engine fitted to my VW LT45 van.

It uses a lot of oil and blue smokes on idle, is it the cylinders  that need re-boring?

I fitted a re-con turbo the other month as this was wrecked, the inlet piping in the inlet manifold was wet with oil on the walls of the manifold, i replaced the turbo and the performance has improvec, but the oil consumption is still high.

Once the engine is working at high idle on the open road, it will quite happily cruise at 65 mph all day, and i can't see any smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Could there be a problem with the intercooler and does this contain oil ?

What does the intercooler do?

Thanks for any replies.

hi if the old turbo collapsed then this might help, I've seen the pressurized engine oil pour into a non intercooled engine (6.5td) causing it to run on its own oil, with a badly worn turbo. So with your engine being intercooled it could be very possible that its got some oil sitting in the intercooler , Its worth pulling off a hose to check anyways. Good Luck
