hi there i started with the governor mod and finished it i changed the main/long spring with a piece of tube which worked wonders lots of power all thru the range
BUT...
it was kicking out too much black smoke so i didnt have enough time to sort it so a mate said he would do it while i was out
but he messed up and the throttle is now very strange its not got an easy set off throttle like its on or off full or no throttle if u understand what i mean.....
anyone got any ideas whats happened

?
or can anyone tell me how to put all my setting ie. fuel screw, torx screw, star wheel to standard manufac setting as all my marks have rubbed off
cheers rob

if you have modified the govenor incorrectly the engine will " hang " ...... meaning when you let off the throtle the engine rpm doesn't drop down right away and the engine seems to stay or " hang " at the same rpm that you let the throtle off at for a bit , before finally dropping back down to idle .

yes it was doing that and i have managed to sort that out by adjusting the position of the throttle arm on the splines at the bottom of the shaft
my main concern now is that when i want to set off slowly from a standing still its got instant power and no gentle throttle (like) i wouldnt be able to tootal along at 10mph in 1st gear ??
also i`m not sure i mentioned it but i only made the main long spring solid and left the intermediate as it was ...
but yes if i can get these little problems sorted i will be very happy as the power is amazing for a 1.6 diesel engine
i hit 120mph at 5,500rpm last night which is an amazing increase in power compared to b4..

what you need to do , is make sure all the springs are left on the governor shaft ( in other words don't remove any of the springs and put something solid in their place , the springs need to be there ) .
then shim just the springs that are side by side roughly 1/8 of a inch to start . you can add more shims / washers later if you need the engine to rev higher .
i used machine screw washers , i believe i have the larger of the 2 springs shimmed at 1/4 inch and the other at 1/8 of a inch .
also on the top of the pump there are 2 long screws controlling the range of motion of the throtel lever ( ie one can control idle speed and the other controls max rpm )
take the one screw that controls your max rpms and back it out all the way till the throtle lever no longer contacts the arm when the gas peddle is floored .

the only thing that annoys me now is that the throttle is so instant i think ive sorted everything else out with tinkering lol

Take out some of the solid in the main spring until it drives correctly...don't mess with the other springs they will have more drivability issues like you are experiencing.

No as I think every pump could be different as where they are. Usually it is in the middle somewhere. If you are wrong it is easy to change. Mine was about 5 degrees past the middle lines. See if there was any dirt left behind to help you get close.

its ok not too fussed about it now as i`m tuning an aaz which i`m going to install into my mk2
just one problem the rear engine mount on the AAZ has a different bracket on the engine compared to the gtd i hope the interchangeable as the one on the AAZ is knackerd and the one on the gtd is brand new

get rid off the small spring and put a 2mm washer behind the big spring , this is nice to drive , and works well

Both of my pumps have factory marks on the shaft and lever, it was easy then.
