Injector nozzles

Hi everyone,

i would like to replace the nozzles in my injectors. Does anyone have any experience with the nozzles prothe sells? Can anyone recommend any other suppliers for nozzles?

I cant speak for or against prothe.

However, I can speak favorably for Sean at Hessian Imports.
He took care of me with my nozzle problems.
Prices are reasonable, turnaround is good and he can provide parts from simply nozzles to full assemblies built to your needs.

I'm happy with his work, and thats after being thru 2 other vendors that provided poor quality parts or labor.

OEM is Bosch.... dunno about suppliers in Oz... Giles at Performance Diesel in Ontario can ship 'em from Canada, right Tyler?

The trick is that your injectors should be re-calibrated after you replace your nozzles... special equipment is required... a tester and an assortment of shims.  The tester can be built if you have access to a welder... but for one set you might just want to track down complete injectors.... again Giles can likely hook you up over the mail if you can't find locally... you can PM burn_your_money if you'd like to investigate that option further.

my jetta , 1.6td , has prother merc nozzles in it for about a year now ( 35,000km roughly ) with no issues ( other than being a bit smokey due to the merc's design ) .

my brothers samurai conversion ( same engine , 1.6 td ) has standard vw tips from prothe about a year also ( not sure of the km's , but it gets driven year around  ) and again  no issues  .

pop pressure on the merc nozzles is around 2700 psi , and  2300 psi on the standard nozzles .

Interesting. I too am interested in new OEM nozzles. I have new merc ones but i heard they don`t do nice things to aaz pre chambers.

Im using merc OM636 unimog nozzles and they are absolutely perfect, clean startup - brisk engine acceleration - popped at std VW break pressure

Yeah Giles can ship them out from work, no problem.

Yeah AFAIK Bosch is the only OEM for the IDI nozzles. I know that VW used Stanadyne in some TDI applications in Europe.

I checked around last Winter for rebuilt injectors that were pop tested and the only place that I trusted was Giles and his prices are as good as anybody's.  I put a set of nozzles in one time a while back and they were so damn noisy I ended up putting the old  ones back in, I didn't realise they had to be recalibrated.  They really need to be pop tested and an individual person with 1 set to do would go crazy and spend a fortune putting together a tester and getting the right shims needed.  Save the agravation and have a trustworthy person like Giles do them for you or send you a set, the ones he did for me are fine.  You can find rebuilt injectors for less than $45 but are they really pop tested and how close to being equal are they really.  You'll never know without a testor and they know that too.

$12.95 each... Real Bosch, and BARELY cost any more than Prothe's ones.

I have a set of Prothe injectors... I would say my car ran better on them than it did on my worn out stock Bosch ones.  The build quality of the bodies isn't anywhere near as nice as the Bosch ones though.  In the end I've got my stock bodies with new nozzles.  I was chasing down a problem that turned out not to be injector related and yanked 'em...  They are definitely NOT Bosch, but they seem to work.  I didn't run them for more than a few thousand km though.  I would be tempted to say I had one that popped early but I don't have a tester to verify that.

I'm planning on keeping my motor for a looooong time.  I'll use cheap parts where cheap parts are appropriate - I've got Prothe parts on my car.  Injectors are one place where I want to stick with Bosch, there's just too many variables (pop pressure, spray shape, etc).
