How do you remove the studs in the turbo housing for the downpipe. I have been heating and beating but only could get two of them out. Any suggestions?

I have heated them, vice griped, pipe wrenched, and hammered on them a little and still no luck. I spent the afternoon on this. Can I blow the stud out of the housing with the torch and not hurt it? Seems like the housing isn't anything that will melt, but the stud sure will. Please let me know what you all have done as this is very frustrating.

Torch carefully and you may be able to blow the studs out.... I've pulled it off on some manifolds..  I'm not real famalier with the turbos, but I'm guessing the stud holes aren;t drilled completely though that they could have bolts with nuts stuck though, just in case...

Something that does work from time to time is to heat (as best as you can) just the bolt till it's glowing, then douse it with oil, wax, sometimes even water.. AS it cools quickley it'll draw the above mentioned substance in around th threads and let loose...

Good luck!

I've had luck heating the stud to glowing, then using a spray bottle with a fine nozzle to spritz water onto the stud to quickly cool it. It seems that the sudden shock sometimes loosens whatever's clogging up the works.

Vice grips are also my friend.

Thanks guys. I will keep trying, but I have already tried welding a nut to it and it wouldn't stick and would break off. I have tried to get them glowing and the quick cool, I haven't tried to torch them out and at that point I believe I will take it somewhere so I am not the one who screws it up. I just need these 2 to come out and then I can assemble this thing...frustrating.

If the nut just broke off you need more heat from the welder.

If you buy those compressed air dusters and turn them upside down and spray them they spray out some very cold stuff. You could heat and then try spraying that on them. Just be careful you don't get frostbite.

FINALLY got it. I used the arc welder and got it to hold the nut then heated it with the torch, still didn't want to come. Then sprayed a little more free all and they turned out pretty hard but they are out. Now I am assembling the head....after this post.
