intermittent pump problem, or is it something else?
« on: July 16, 2009, 12:01:57 pm »
ok, so, i kinda fixed a problem, then made another problem more noticeable. turns out i have had a boost leak ever since i intercooled my car. well, got that problem fixed, let er warm up, then went for a little cruise. at a stop sign, i gave a good burp on the throttle, then dropped the clutch and floored it. well, it has absolutely no traction in first gear, and very little traction until the top of 2nd gear. and that was on some bone dry pavement with some wide ass tires.
and to top it off, i had a little over 20 psi going on, and still had a SOLID BLACK STREAM coming out the tail pipe. how come it wont consistently pour that black cloud at 20+ psi? ive had it happen like 3-4 times. and holy crap, it really has some power when it makes that much smoke on boost. most of the time i have plenty of power, but once it gets above about 10 psi usually, it cleans up the smoke to a haze, if not completely gone.

think it could be fuel starvation some how? ive just changed my fuel filter. i cleaned out my hard line about 6 months ago. and i also have a small lift pump before the fuel filter. i thought for sure i would never be able to starve this beast of fuel with this beastly fuel system. oh yea, i use filters off volvo pentas, they are way WAY bigger filters, plus, i got them for free

I've also noticed mine puffs smoke inconsistently from time to time, without the boost of course :-[

Never looked into it or thought about it much though. One time in particular it was blowing little chunks of black out smaller than sawdust, the ground had snow on it so it was easy to see ;D
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Yeah it was the chunks plus lots of black smoke.
