• I bought an 86 Jetta TD from that guy last December in Cali. I think he used the cash I gave him for the Jetta to buy that Beetle. I don't know what he was thinking cause that Beetle must be a real turtle, worse than an NA Vanagon.    I think the repairs the Jetta needed were beyond his technical ablility so that's why he sold it. Pretty cool guy though just the same.

• thats neat... but a vw diesel would have worked... but they're not air cooled so i can understand why he wouldn't use one

• man that car would suck to drive.  for the slowness it should give at least 60+ mpg otherwise its uncool...  that thing could use an electric booster motor in a hybrid config

• a friend of mine put a tdi in an aircooled beetle and said it handled like ***, cool but not cool...
  
  he said he was going to put a fox tranny in and make it mid engine but the customer wasnt into it.
  
  i still think the car is cool in a unique way.
