i've been offered this Garrett turbo for not very much money but the seller doesn't know very much about it, i've been given a few number's off it and after a search i've found out its from an AAZ engine and the owner thinks it is the original manifold that is on it, although looking at it its the opposite way round to the one on my jetta, heres a pic

the search i did says its a TB026, does this mean any thing to any one? i've tried searching the net for info but it came up with nothing apart from a few cars it was fitted too.
basically first i need to know if this will fit my car (its a mk2 jetta with a mk2 golf TD conversion), and secondly is this turbo any good, what kinda boost can they take and how would it compare to a K24?
thanks for any help

Looks like a T2. If it's OE AAZ, then it has to be since AAZ wasn't equipped with a T3 anyway.
If it's a T2 it should have water cooling.
Performance-wise, it's very close to a KKK K14, i.e. good low-rpm response, but limited maximum power
capability (good for street driving in other words).

I'll second the T2 idea.
In NA we didn't get watercooled turbos. All ours are oil cooled

could any one tell me if this will fit on to my 1.6 manifold? it just the pic shows the turbo sitting on the opposite side to mine and the outlet is facing a different way to mine. it looks like once its mounted to my mani it would sit correct, but i don't want to buy it without knowing if its going to fit.

take them both off and compare the flange. it will either fit or not fit. looks like it will fit tho. if it doesnt fit on the 1.6 mani, then just use the 1.9 mani.

the turbo is at the other side of the country so its not just a case of comparing it unfortunately and i really don't want to buy it just on the off chance that it will fit. as i said the manifold on this turbo has the turbo mounted on the opposite side to mine and with the turbo outlet pointing in totally the wrong direction, if i fitted this manifold to my engine the turbo would be pointing at the gear box.

right i am a spoon, looks like the manifold is a normal one but the part of the down pipe that is still connected has been put on upside down making it look like the turbo was facing the wrong way

no, its facing the right way. the other guy that had it on his car must have had a sweet hood stack.
btw...
look what way the oil drain is coming out of the turbo.
last time i checked, oil didnt flow up out of the turbo.

I think you're right. Looks like the downpipe was put on backwards after the turbo was removed. The other smaller diameter tube looks to be the EGR recirculation line which would connect to the intake manifold. The oil drain line is in the right spot (6 o'clock position).

yea
but it looks like you are going to luck out and just get to slap it on like it is, well, with your downpipe of course
