Lopey idle after new parts
« on: July 05, 2009, 11:34:56 am »
Well, I bit the bullet and decided to go with a Giles pump.. and holy crap what a difference!!!

but after changing pump/injectors & heat shields/timing belt... after getting the pump on the car and firing it up, it has a really lopey/lumpy idle with a slight ticking... there seems to be a very very tiny leak either from the injector spill over lines or maybe from the injector feed line itself... I'm still diagnosing that.

The pump timing isn't "perfect" as we didn't time the pump with the dial gauge... :(

I'll be out tinkering with it trying to get the idle to settle down a bit and not sound like it's running on 3 cylinders :)...

otherwise, everything is AWESOME...

The idle could have something to do with it not being timed dead with a dial guage, get that sorted out first. As for the leak, an older german gentleman here in london that had a diesel shop told me to use a drop of oil on all the fuel line connections. I have been using that method for a few years now and I dont get leaks.

okay... so I've been driving the car a bit, and let it heat up and noticed that the lines to the injectors weren't fully tight...
they weren't put on with a torque wrench but I'm sure they weren't 18 lbs as the book states... so I tightened them down again and it seems MUCH better...

leak is going/gone..... and the idle is WAY smoother.... not so lopey...
