Yes get the studs especialy on the 1.5's as they have a problem cracking the block from the bolts not going in far enough. After you get them you will be glad you did even at the price they are it's probably the best thing you can do to these engines to help it last or from ruining it during assembly. Guys show pictures here all the time of cracked blocks with 11 m/m bolts that don't go in deep enough, that's the big reason VW went to the 12 m/m bolts but they are stretch type and have their own set of problems though. I like studs and I'm glad I have them in this engine.
ARP # 204-4701, VW Golf/Jetta 1.8L & 2.0L 8v kit1.5s use 11mm headbolts like the 8v gas engines do.
