1.9 aaz help
« on: July 02, 2009, 05:59:50 pm »
i posted this is another fourm but found this and thought it might be a better fit here, thanks

i have a 94 1.9 aaz in my 88 jetta with the 1.6 garret turbo, i run about 23-24psi and have arp headstuds, 2.5" exhaust, timing is advanced a little, 1.6 boost pin

i just did a headgasket and my head was mangled, precups almost split in two and lots of cracks, some past valve seats

i used a rebuilt head and with some help i put it on with a new belt/tensioner and seals. when putting it back together, i didnt use the little heat sheilds that space up and narrow the hole for the injector.. by mistake of course, my first time doing this. at first it shook a bit, then it started to make a knock in higher rpm's, now it does it non stop.. put about 1000km's on it, til i put the spacers back in. ive tried a couple different sets of injectors, and put new lifters and a better looking 1.6 cam in it tonight and no change...

any ideas on what i might have done to my engine, and what to do next?
thanks

Try checking the oil pressure.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

wel if you've got 12psi at the head at least all of the engine is getting oil, as that is the last spot to see it. And the fact that you are getting 12 at the end of the line albeit a tad low, it is still within safe limits i believe. Whats the dipstick look like? Filled right to the top of the cross hatch?
