Driving my 2009 TDI to Florida for a vacation. With 7700 miles on the car, I honestly did not like their scheduled oil changes every 10,000 miles, free or not.
So $80 lighter, I had the oil changed at the dealer. I will put a mark on the oil filter and see if they change it again.
2300 miles or not, I'll take the oil change anyway at 10,000 miles.
Other than that little gripe, I love my 2009 Jetta TDI.
However, just being inquisitive, I walked over to parts and asked how much pistons were for my 1989 Jetta 1.6 NA. After being ordered from Germany, I'll pass on $1,580 for a new set from VW.....lolol
Guess it isn't called a 'stealership' for nothing...lolol
Stay safe, stay well. Jimmy.
I haven't opened an engine that really needed pistons, that's why they are so expensive, you need a crank bolt... 2€ you need a thingamagick that nobody was able to brake before.. 2000€
that's what I think of dealership prices anyway.
I avoid the stealership at all costs except for little odds and ends like bolts that online stores don't carry.
For example, I asked my local dealer how much Corrado 15" steel wheels would be. Answer - $265 - per wheel!!!!! 1stVWparts has then hovering around $58.

Well, my compression rings are shot, and I'm afraid of any damage. Within the next few weeks it will be driven to Canada to the expert hands of "Dr. Diesel". So I am just playing my options out just in case I need anything new. Like you, the 'Dr'. said I may not need new. But since I miss the lottery by 6 numbers 2x a week,
with my luck I may need new, so I was just seeing how much $$ I may have to spend IN CASE I do.
As posted, VW shops here in the NYC area want $2,000 just to do the rings. Even with the drive and train/airfare home and back to get the 89, it is still $1000 cheaper than down here to drive it to Canada. So, in case I need new, I just want a ballpark figure on how much I'm going to need. I have a lot of money invested in it already, so I might as well get the work done.
Plus, it is fun to drive still. Even more fun when everything is fixed and my IP gets 'Gilesfied' as well.
