So i recently drove my 81 rabbit 2300 miles on my new td 1.6l. The entire way i was doing about 70-75 mph. i have the 020FF trans, and I'm wondering what are you all's rpms with this set up at that speed. I was blessed with a clock insted of a tach, that way my i dont feel as bad when i rev it up because i dont know the rpm. Overall the car did great, averaged about 5psi the whole way and ran pretty cool too!
Thanks Cambo
I always liked the irony of having the clock in the place of the rev counter, as if you should be more worried about the time than what your engine is doing.

Hear hear! Hahahahahha All my friends are shocked to see the clock "What the freakin heck is the RPM at?! oh ... its a huge clock. Well that's handy"
Find your tire size and go to www.scirocco.org/gears
Awesome link Dan. I'm double checking my tire size right now
I have an FN trans and @ 70mph my rpm is 3000.
That link he posted is the way to go.
Thanks Tyler! That link was great!
So at 110km/hr im at 2717rpm .... That seems a little high ... shouldnt it be more like 2,200? Where is it printed on the trans which one it is? I can never assume anything on my car is ever original

2200 rpm is ideal but most mk2 transmissions only do 2800 rpm minimum for that speed. only the tallest (CTN) will run you to those low rpms

On the bottom of the bell housing is a flat spot with the code and coded date of the tranny stamped into it.

I have my doubts on that one. You'll be lugging the motor pretty bad
detuned 58hp diesel engines did not need tach gauges.....that comes after guys like us mod them out of their normal operating range.
