GTD question
« on: June 17, 2009, 06:16:04 am »
I got a GTD engine with 77,000 miles on the clock.  it is a thing of beauty.  Has a water cooled t2 turbo that i can't wait to hear through my 2.5 inch exhaust.  It is going into my 1981 caddy and I have a couple problems that I need help with.

1. i figure the plug at the top of the turbo keeps the pump working after shutdown until the turbo cools off.  my question is, will the switch need a relay or can it handle the power of the pump?  probably a stupid question and i imagine i'll put a relay on it anyway.

2.  at the top of the IP comming there is a line that is made of the same stuff that the fuel return lines are made of.  it is cut off about 3 inches from the IP.  is that the fuel return that goes back to the tank?  i'm a little confused since there are two clear lines commin into the IP.

3.  the previous NA engine had a motor mount on the passengers side of the cab but the gtd has a long arm that extends back towards the firewall at about the same height as the motor mount for the non aspirated engine.  I'm not sure what type of car the GTD came out of and i'm not sure what type of motor mount to weld up.

4. Lastly, I have my old a/c unit out of my 1981 that is a factory set up that i want to keep but the brackets don't look like they are compatible and i don't have the capability to weld cast iron.  I assume it is the same bracket that is on the TD.  if anyone has one I would be happy to buy it
BTW  i used the search function and answered about a million questions on my own but these three I haven't had much luck with.  any help woud be appreciated.

I'm putting the same engine in my caddy  8)

Can answer all the questions but here's what I can.

The power for your turbo water pump does go through a relay and a 10A fuse, see diag. (I'll put it up as soon as I have figured how to  ;D )

The gearbox bracket you are talking about is off a A2 chassis, you don't need it on your caddy. Just take it all off because you will need your original A1 bracket. Is your pickup 4 or 5 speed? If 5 not issue, if 4 then you will need a 5speed gearbox bracket (and shift linkage)
