MK2 In-tank lift pump, stock lines and water separator box

I'm almost done putting my TDI in a '86 coupe and I have a question about the stock fuel lines and the water separator under the car.  I want to use a gasser in-tank fuel pump as a lift pump.  I used one on my previous MK2 GTI w/TDI and it works really well.  My question is has anybody run pressure through the stock lines and separator?

get rid of the separator.  its unnecessary.  plus the fuel inlet pressure shouldn't be more than 5-10 psi, or it could affect the pump.

i was told not to use the intank pump for my 86 jetta gas to diesel conversion.  they said it would screw up the timing to the pump somehow.  put in the proper sending unit, and ran new lines to the existing nylon lines that were in front of the cis pumps.  no problems running yet.   and no need for the water seperator.  diesel isn't the same as it was 23 years ago.

OK, I'll ditch it.  I figured it couldn't hurt to have it but if its going to fail on my or something I don't want it in there. 
The intank transfer pump from a CIS car for example only puts out 6-7psi flat out.  I ran one in the '91 GTI for 6 months and it worked out really well.  The main CIS pump would be WAY too much pressure.
