• I am thinking about buying a TDI for MPG? i like the Jetta and Golf. i want a manual. so what is better for MPG between Jetta and Golf??

• the golf weighs about 100 lbs less or so.  it's not going to be a heck of a lot better, but the golf will get slightly better mileage.

• Even though the Golf is a bit lighter the shape of it is not aerodynamic compared to a Jetta. A square back doesn't allow the air to slide, if you will, off smoothly. The square causes the air moving over the car to become turbulent, upsetting the flow over the rest of the car. The turbulent air causes more drag and the higher drag requires a higher amount of energy to overcome. To create more energy your going to use more fuel. This is why we see cars like the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight with such weird shapes on the back end.

• then its more of a personal preference.  if you like to drive faster, then go for the jetta.
