My current car Vauxhall/Opel Frontera has been naughty and chewed up it's gearbox... *sigh*
I was going to sell this and buy the GTD, now it's worth zip, ziltch, nudda. I knew buying it was a mistake.

My company have offered me a company car now and I think I'm going to take it because I'm disheartened with old cars now and they want me to have a reliable car   it will be a VW of some sort.

An old car is not reliable? I think your wrong, Sir. lol I drive an 84, my mom drives an 06 f150... our truck has had more problems in 3 years.. then my car has ever had in 25 (know this for a fact because i have all service records.. All done by VW too guy musta been loaded! lol)

I disagree with you to a certain degree... I can understand where it would come from. Carburetors are a pain in the ass to start in winter, as are diesels (when un properly tuned) and that to most is something that will make or break a car... I do all my own work on it, so i really dont have a problem with an older car.. plus if i drove new, not only would i not be able to do the work.. i wouldnt have any fun doing it, and i would be giving up my arm and leg

 Sorry to hear about your car, my Rabbit chewed one up 2 years ago but it gave me a chance to tear one of them apart and rebuild it too.  The only thing that hasn't came apart so far is the clock but would I ever miss this little creature if he were gone

The way i see it is that you drive the company car for work leaving you free to do any work on the veedub without the pressure of getting the car back together for the journey to work.
Thats what i do, new company car for milemunching and my old car for tinkering, having fun with!

How can you get rid of the whole car for something as simple as a TRANS!?

I'd still take the company car but ... no need to trash yours man. Trannies are cheap. You can keep it for high mileage road trips and your "project car"
few things in life are as rewarding as driving 500 km in 1 day after having it down to bearings the week before

I done almost all the work on my 1.6 carb and I loved it to bits, but it had seriously bad rot underneath and failed it's annual roadworthy test within 2 minutes of the guy looking at it... 

I won't be able to get the  GTD I wanted now because I'll be fixing the Frontera, which will be a couple hundred bucks... and I'll be lucky to break even let alone make anything of it. I'm really really gutted, because I've only had 3 months ! The previous owners son has offered to replace the gearbox for a few hundred if I can find one, but tbh I don't want to pay them MORE money. I'd rather pay someone else.

The GTD was offered to me for £400 with no road tax and no MOT (annual roadworthy test, both just expired), it's now passed the roadworthy test and has 6 months road tax and was offered it for £675, while he's got it on the market for £750 for anyone else     

I'm still in limbo about the company car too because they're having a rough time. It WILL be a dub, diesel, and Golf...    not sure if it will be a GTTDI or TDI yet, I'll even take a 2-3 year old Golf over a brand new anything non-VAG and hopefully the budget will allow for a older GTTDI.

Reeto, got good news! I am picking the GTD up on Saturday !     

Can't wait to get back into a dub. Got a good hour drive home with about 40 of that on twisty roads   

I'm buzzing! Still got the Frontera and might just sell it as spares/repairs on an offroad forum I joined ages ago when I first got it.

I've got such a big smile on my face now, it's so awesome!

I feel like a kid again ! Just as excited about this Golf as my old MK2 Golf 1.6 GT (Driver) which was my first car !


No modding just yet though, need to get all the guages and stuff before I do anything.

Awesome drive home  Don't quite know how fast we were going on the motorway as the speedo cable needs to be fitted, but we flew past a CTR and he was not happy, having two Red MK2 Golf's fly past him (my friend in his 16v GTi took me down).

The turbo spooling turned some heads too
