1Z TDI oil squirters, replacement item for rebuild?
« on: May 30, 2009, 10:19:07 pm »
I am installing the ASV style pistons (extra oil cooling in the crown) on my 1Z rebuild and thought that I should replace the oil squirters as well since I want to maximize the effectiveness of the new pistons. But I can't find them anywhere, are they a normal wear item or do they pretty much last forever? Is "oil squirter" the official name??
???Anyone have for sale?

TIA, Tom

Just had to try out the marquee function!

if your throwing in asv pistons why not step it up a notch and go with the roston rods. Thats what I'm going to do as a 700 dollars set of rod is much less than a rebuild. Also I think I remember reading that people change there valves with 8mm shafts out for 7mm shafts.... but it seems to me that I would wait until my head need rebuilt.... But back to your original question I don't think you need to replace your oil squirters unless they are damaged, as there non moving parts.

My machinist took care of the rods, haven't got the bill yet...

Also had the 8mm valves installed along with a complete rebuild of the head.

Thanks, Tom

what exactly do you mean "your machinest took care  of your rods". I am very interested, as roston's are very expensive, and I would like to save as much money as I can on my build.

His daughter has been sick for awhile which has involved him driving back and forth from here to Denver for the last 6 months. So I don't really know, been giving him lots of space, we talked about it and he said he would take care of it.

I just read the post by Frank Irving at tdiclub and am now wondering if I should go with the Rosten rods, it's only money right? I also noticed that Frank is looking into the oil squirters as well. He is the guy who rebuilt the head for me and got me the ASV pistons, huge thumbs up for him, very helpful.

Talked to Frank and the word is that the Ronstens are for an engine that is putting out some serious hp/tq, i.e. double stock numbers. Mine isn't so going to pass on those.

Also, an upgrade for the oil squirters would be the ones from a BEW engine available from the the dealer.
