A/C and power loss
« on: May 24, 2009, 01:54:29 am »
Hey all,   today I got my A/C working and it blows cold--for how long...who knows.

Anywho--I noticed while driving that as soon as the A/C clutch kicks on, I feel a slight loss in power..Nothing major, just noticeable. When it kicks off, the power comes back.  It so minor, I just may be feeling it cycle on and off.  Is this normal or is my clutch just tight causing the loss in power?  I know it has to do with the clutch cause if I turn my fan off, I have no issues.

Let me know what you all think

Thx

BTW--my car is a 91 jetta eco diesel 1.6l turbo

pretty standard. It takes horsepower to turn that compressor. Cost you fuel mileage too! Much more noticable on a small engine than it would be on something bigger.

these cars lack the extra power boost/idle boost that newer cars have.  use a hydrocarbon refrigerant to make it more efficient.  r134a sucks!  ;)
