Timing
« on: May 23, 2009, 01:07:36 pm »
So last weekend I figured out my flywheel mark is wrong so I pulled an injector and used a piece of copper wire top best determine TDC. Ive got the cam and pump timed and the engine rolls over. How much could it be off and how much will it affect it. The engine rolls over by hand and there is no binding.

Start it up?

TDC is at the edge of the middle bolt hole (probably not drilled unless you have a gasser or AAZ flywheel) i made the mistake of putting a gasser wheel on my engine, but the timing marks are 6 off of where we need them.

if you have the pump and cam locked in at TDC and you manually found TDC of the crank.. Slap the belt on, set the timing and fire that bad boy up (making sure to remove ALL locks and pins)

should fire up no problem...   All the timing mark on the wheel does is tell you when the #1 is TDC.. and you did that yourself.. Scribe your own mark on the flywheel and your good to go. The best way to make your own mark.. is to make a mark when the piston starts to leave TDC by turning the engine both directions by hand and scribing marks at both spots.. TDC will be directly in between them

Good luck gettin her going!  ;D
