2 psi boost from an AAZ

The star wheel and the smoke screw adjust the relationship of boost to movement in the LDA.

If you want to delay the addition of fuel, turn the star wheel counter clockwise.  To start adding fuel sooner with boost, turn it the opposite direction.  The smoke screw on top of the LDA housing sets the "starting point" for additional fuel.

You can turn the star wheel counter clockwise until it starts kicking in at the pressure you want - trouble is figuring out WHEN it's actually kicking in.  A compressed air source would probably be the best way... Maybe a bike pump?  Might have to try that...

As stated above both of mine do move with less than 7 psi

Have you got a lot of preload dialled into your setup?

I get movement on completely standard AAZ and GTD setups at low pressures

The AAZ has no starwheel or 'smoke' screw.

Ah... Right, we're talking about AAZ's...

Pretty sure I've read elsewhere that the spring in the AAZ LDA is super super soft, unlike the one you'll find in a 1.6TD which is relatively hard.  So if you've got an AAZ LDA then yeah, it probably starts moving at really low pressure.  If you've got a 1.6TD LDA then it probably takes quite a bit more boost to get it going.

forgot about all the references to the "joke" LDA on top of an AAZ pump.

No. not 7 psi to get them moving. 7 psi was the max boost I was getting in my original GTD - for 7psi I was getting approx 7mm of travel on the pin. So I would say that the pin started moving well before 7 psi

As for the AAZ - not sure what boost that was getting - the gauge read 2psi but I'm seriously doubting that reading. however there was evidence of a similar 7mm of travel on the pin.

Just found this thread.  Re driving with the wastegate open, it seems to make the engine significantly smoother in my car.  Gets rid of the exhaust droning that I've been complaining about for a year, and that in turn makes the cabin much quieter on the motorway.

Now I just have to figure out why the microswitch isn't working to shut that damn wastegate when I need it shut
