DIESEL INJECTOR PUMP
« on: May 05, 2009, 04:04:23 pm »
Hi - I have an 81 1.6 diesel pickup that I have rebuilt. It has run fine until recently. It starts & idles fine but when I increase the engine rpm & hold it at any level it sputters & dies after 15 seconds. I have replaced the fuel filter, air filter & stop selenoid. It has a VE injection pump. Anyone have any ideas on yhe problem or what tests should I perform to determine the problem.
Thanks
Larry

Hi Larry,
With the RPMs up, is there air in the feed line going to the pump? How about the return?

For troubleshooting, try putting both the feed and return lines into a jar of clean diesel fuel and see if you get the same symptoms.
