Author Topic: Power steering rack..MKIII (Read 2377 times)

Hey guys!!

I have an MkIII with messed up steering box, I removed it last weekend to replace it. Unfortunately the new rack turned out to be from an MKII and had thinner splines. So had to put the old rack back in.

The part number I found on the rack is 1H2 422 061, I cant find this number on vagcat, can anyone check on ETKA and confirm if this is the correct number.

My car is a golf MKIII 1995, 1.9AAZ, Right hand drive, manual with power steering and aircon.

According to my ETKA version, is should be 1HM 422 061 (TRW). Also, 1HM 422 055D has the tie rod included.

Someone need to confirm because I may not be all correct.

For your part #. 1H2 422 061, it says that this part # has been dropped in 01/03/2000 and that you need to use 6k2 422 061 A

I wont find the rite steering rack in this part of the world..

I have two racks from MKII same brand XTR USA, and the seem pretty much the same, the only difference is the extra number of splies in the MKII rack.

If I install the MKII rack with MKII lower drive shaft(steering cross) I think it would fit perfect... the question is would it work alrite as well?

Okay i was assuming that the racks were from MKIIs but i just ran the part number 192 422 055 on vagcat and it says no results found.

HEY can you please check the part number? 192 422 055 and 191419855D can you tell me which cars are these from?
