ive rebuilt the entire engine and am getting ready to fire it for the first time. how crutial is the timing mark on the pump to pump bracket. do i need to set the timing with the dial indiacator in back of the pump? or will lining up the marks do for firing it up? thanks
I've found that timing mark to be close enough to get it started. Then you can loosen the four nuts and bolt on the injector pump and adjust it by ear. Push the injector pump towards the engine block to advance the timing.I haven't used the dial indicator. You will only move the injector pump one or two degrees back or forth to get the timing in. B
If you have taken the time and money to to a good complete rebuild, then take the time to time it correctly. Use the timing tools to time it then bleed the pump and injectors. It will then fire right off and be ready to drive. No more dinking around.
whats the correct way to bleed the pump? i know that the pressure at the injectors is nothing to mess around with. i dont want to cut with diesel fuel.
and can you tell me what im doing with the dial indicator when setting the pump. i know im supposed to be looking for 1 mm. but am i just turning the pump towards the motor till it reads the correct setting? and do i need a timing lite?
thanks
