What about just using the 90amp (?) and running a 1.0 or 1.5 Farad Cap?

up to 2.0farads is only good for 2000wrms, and 90 amps my lights will be dimming, my previous car had 140amp alternator, 2 batteries (both were deep cycle yellow tops) and my lights would still dim. I thought since I found the 200amp for a steal of a deal price, I could mod it in somehow. 5500wrms is a lil much for daily, but I also plan on competing either this year or next.

Contact blkboostedtrk / Duane. He knows a guy who can mod your alt to whatever amp power you want.

but what I kinda wanted to know , can I use Mkiii alternator in a mkii car? with minimal modding? or do I gotta do a buttload of wiring?
The only reason im persistant on this, is im getting a mkiii alternator for cheaper then a junkyard would ask!!!

A mk3 alternator won't work on a mk2 without some modification. Mk3s use a serpentine set-up while mk2s use vee belts. You can convert to serpentine but by the time you buy the parts to do that you might be better off getting a mk2 alt re-worked to put out more current.

don't forget with a 200amp alternator you'll need to adjust the idle  some kid managed to put a 300 amp (gm???) alt in his n/a diesel and it would stall. that thing would require a lot of power.

a 200 amp alt will take about 3.2 HP to turn at full load(assuming 100% efficiency of course)

and has anyone checked how much HP an NA has at idle???

so i'd say about 5kw which is about 6.7hp. so that alternator will require nearly 50% of the engines idling power... and don't forget about any other accessories running.
