Passat gas to diesel swap?

I have my eye on a mint '92 Passat wagon, but it's a gasser, and automatic. Is it hard to find the diesel fuel sending unit in the wreckers? Or will a diesel Jetta/Golf sender work? Any advice would be appreciated. 8)
