I ordered new drive shafts with CV's and i got them today but i was pretty dissapointed...
pictures to explain.
Here they are

Opened the first one... looks nice.

next one however was wrapped in plastic inside the box. the plastic was ripped and i found this inside the plastic bag...

It has already been packed... for what ever reason... and it's missing 2 ball bearings...

The zap straps that were supposed to have been holding it together had been cut. You can also see the big grease stains from the bag being opened and grease getting all over the inside of the box.
Why is this one packed already?
Why does the box say, "Only 100% new parts"...
Why is it missing parts?
Is it missing parts or am i missing something up in here *points to head*
It's supposed to have 6 ball bearings right? just like the first one ... and NOT already be greased up.

You totally got a customer's returned axle.
I have bought a lot of Empis for Mk2/3 applications,
and they were always like your first axle.
They gotta swap that for a new one.

I just wrote them a somewhat polite email.
So, they accidentally packaged and sent me a customer returned part?

if the plastic was ripped like that,
its gotta be a return,
Someone opened it and cut the cable tie and put it back in the box.

Id like to think they would send you a good one in advance,
and have you send the other back on their dime.
Make them overnight it!
(that would certainly take a phone call, Id imagine!)
Hooray for a depression! Customer service is improving slightly!

the door handle i got in the same order came broken also.
50% of the items i bought were defective and the 1 other item was a gear for the end of the crank.

For anybody who has no connection to the VW air cooled scene - EMPI IS GARBAGE! . A company bought the old HI-Po VW parts name and now is making parts in china[ okay everything is made there now, but there are differences in quality] and poor parts they are .

All my experiences with best price car parts have been good and I've ordered quite a bit of stuff from them. I also have a empi driveshafts on my car and they have been ok. However, I personally know of someone who had a vw fit empi CV joint shear off at the shaft/bearing union one day after mounting it.

Been running EMPIs from Best on my hot AAZ for over a year now... 25+ psi on the on-ramp... no issues.

I have run lots of EMPI products on my aircooled car including CV's(which are exactly the same as the 90mm CV's on watercooled vw's) without any issues.
the only failure I had was due to running them at a really high angle with a boot I tore on a rock out on the beach.
when I got home the joint was full of sand, an it still ran (albeit a little loud) for the three weeks it took to get another one up here in AK.
just keep the boots on them and plenty of grease in them and you will be fine.

I don't know if you wasted all your money, if the one that's complete works and lasts for a few years, then of course not. However i would run away from that brand in the future. Check out anywhere in the high performance section of The Samba to see how much flak they get.
