hi, i have just got some wheels given by a friend, and dont know if they will fit my 1990 mk2 golf. they are 7j x 15" offset 24, my car as standard suspension and im wondering if they will catch the arches

No, they should certainly clear.
6.5X15 was a standard size for GTi/GLi 16v of the same year.
7s are nice on the mk2
