Hello,, name is Brad,, My dad finally passed down his 92' Jetta TD ECOdiesel to me.
I have a couple years ago rebuilt the engine,, with new bearings, rings and had the head resurfaced with a new gasket 3 notch.
The car has run into a state of disrepair since my dad owned it,, needs motor mounts bad! and it was having a problem with 1 injector not firing and not sure if its the injector or pump (dad tried to put anything possible in the tank that would burn!)
Since the rebuild I have been reading a bit on what performance upgrades I can do and realized that perhaps I shouldnt have used the 3 notch gasket.
I have a list of questions that perhaps someone can point me in the right direction..
1: I am going to purchase a new head from
www.dieselvw.net as the injector sealing surfaces are trashed because the sealing washers were installed upside down and had to be drilled out,, and thus its now a problem. are these heads decent? aftermarket? I'm also going to purchase the GTD?? or the injectors with the mercedes nozzles? are these better?
2: I would like to this time around use the MLS Headgasket that I have heard about and a set of ARP headbolts. does anyone know the correct part numbers or a place to get these from? I've heard different stories about which gasket to use and am a lil confused.
3:How can I test my injector pump to see if its the culprit or has a weak port?? and are there any upgrades to the ECO pump that I can do to make it the same as a standard TD pump.
4: I plan to add a intercooler and maybe up the boost a bit but I would like to keep it reliable is there maybe a list of things I can do on the cheap and reliable?
5: do they sell a down pipe upgrade? I plan on getting rid of the probably plugged converter on the car and was planning on having a shop pipe me a new exhaust (should be cheap!)
Lastly: with upgrade does anyone have video's or 1/4 mile times of cars that have been upgraded.
