Author Topic: 2005 VW Golf Sunroof Drains Clogged <--------HELP!!! (Read 4643 times)

I have a 2005 4 door Golf and the rear sunroof drains are totally clogged causing water to flow out and down the C pillers into the trunk.
Is there anyway to 'clear' the drains without having to remove the headliner?
If not, how hard is it to remove and reinstall the headliner?
Anyone had this problem?

Not too big a deal to remove the headliner on a golf as the hard part is removing it out of the car. Once you have the handles,screws etc off, the headliner moves forward [or backward ] where it attaches at the sunroof hole. Oh crap ,unless you have side curtain airbags.

Yeah I have the side curtain airbags. Maybe I can have a shop remove the headliner and I can do the work and then have them reinstall the headliner.

Can you blow them through backwards with low air pressure. Just a thought, so not necessary to dissassembulate half the car. Cheers Dan

That may work if you can find the ends of the drains. They probably pop out somewhere behind the rear bumper cover, which can be removed easily.

What I always did was take an air compressor hose,
and a blower nozzle with a small tip,
and go into the drains in the corners of the sunroof frame.
(no worries of bumper removal, and cleaning the gook off my interior!)
The front ones are easy to see in the corners with the sunroof rolled back,
and the back ones may be unavailable with the headliner in,
I am not 100%..

If the seal is bad, junk will clog the drain.

Blowing them from the roof end can blow the hose off the end and then you end up with water running down inside the a-pillars. The rear ones can only be accessed by the taking the headliner off.
