Tips on upgrading my 1.6d
« on: April 06, 2009, 07:16:16 pm »
My 91 coupe has a 1.6d na in it and was looking to maybe put a 1.9tdi?? haha ... just tryin to figure out whats the best way to go about this. the motor in it now has roughly 210,000 miles on it and giving me some issues. leaking(minor) somewhere from the injector pump and is overheating on me. car has minor rust around windshield but is in great condition. want to give it a "boost" because it just dogs uphill, which im sorrounded by. if someone has done this swap before and can give me some tips would greatly appreciate it. 8)

Not trying to sound rude, but try using the search function. Also, the upgrade section is for suspension, wheels, body, interior, ect. Try posting something like this in the idi or Tdi sections. Once again not trying to be rude, i'm just trying to give you some pointers for this site. People here aren't as rude as some other VW forums.  Good luck with the search, and keep V-dubin.

You may find the 1.9 AAZ engine to be cheaper and easier to install and tune then the TDI engine

if your pump is leaking anyway, you can send it to Tyler (burn_your_money) and not only have it rebuilt and sealed. BUT TUNED! It will put you up there with stock 1.6 td's. A pretty hefty 20~hp gain. HELL of alot easier then an entire engine swap. :)

Start a build thread in the IDI section and ask your questions. :)

I vote for rebuild BTW..
