like the subject says, i'm looking for a short rad. the coolant port on the bottom of the rad interferes with my A/C pump so i just need a shorter one. i was considering just modifying the rad itself, but that seems like a lot of work, and i'm not sure if i trust any type of plastic weld to hold up to coolant pressure, and even if it did, i doubt it would last that long.
the TDI makes little to no heat compared to my 1.6, so i think a dinky little rad should suffice. i'm even a little tempted to steal my dads rad out of his daewoo. or even the whole damn assembly with dual fan setup!!! its ridiculously thin!!! half inch or less thick

hmmmm time to go daewoo hunting! or does anyone else know of a car that came with such a thin rad??? hopefully the height would be somewhat similar as well. with such a thin/small rad i could probably fit a good sized intercooler up front with the a/c condensor as well. but i would really love to have dual fans to help cool the condensor for maximum a/c cooling. the aftermarket condensor i bought has way less heat dissipating fins, so it isn't as efficient as an OEM unit. :cry: but for $50 what can you do? :lol: i might just look for a complete good setup from a mk3 and swap that in, making some adaptors for the mk2 lines to mk3. a little off topic but
this site sells kits to crimp your own lines (and a crapload of other a/c goodies), which is pretty cool! i could crimp one side for the mk3 stuff, and the other for the mk2 stuff. neato! :lol:

I have a rad from a 1.6 NA and one from a mk2 1.8 if you are interested. Not sure if they are any shorter though.

the rabbit rad is shorter, i actually put a mk2 rad in today(only way to get my dual fans to mount)
Why not use a sirocco rad? They use them in drag racing to cool big block chevys! My 1.6 doesn't get nearly as hot as my 305 chevy.
Thats the direction i'm going i can get a brand new radiator for around $100. I'm gonna make my own shroud with one fan and some flap openings like the stock one has for on highway cooling.
The Parts Place has an online catalogue. On pages 60,61 they have some dimensions there which might help.

anyone know of a narrower radiator? something 12 to 13 inches tall. i put a f***in huge intercooler in my rab and im now having problems squeezing my radiator and alternator back in the car. but, ill NEVER need a bigger intercooler. its so freakin huge.. it looked alot smaller when i got it off the volvo, but there were NO VOLKSWAGENS at the wrecking yard to compare it to. i had to drop like 3 inches of the bottom of it into the core support. and my boost pipes are such a tight squeeze. i was almost thinking about a honda civic radiator. they are alot smaller. also some vws and audis with longitudal engines had really narrow radiators that mounted beside the engine.

plus my mk2 rad is 26.5 inches, so i think i'll be all set with that cheaper rad
i'll probably go with that just to clear the a/c compressor.
20 inch core length is too long for me. i have 22.5 inches from the plug on the alternator to the inlet hose of my intercooler. and im sure that radiator is longer than 22.5 with the tanks and everything..
Hey Rabbit on Roids, Not tryin to rain on your parade, but you might want to rethink your intercooler. That shape is not very well designed for pressure above 16-18psi. The plastic end cap design can't take the pressure. My Audi has a similar design. Check on the Volvo forums to see about burst pressure. One thing you can try is to put a band around around the entire IC (like they put around wooden shipping crates). But you will be better off rethinking your design. Sorry to side-track your thread, I retreat to my cave now...... :roll:

nah, you didnt rain on ***. the core support on my car is shot, the intercooler was 18 dollars, and 16psi is about all the more boost my turbo makes. its worn pretty good. considering it used to make over 30.
