Hello, everyone.
Im sure this thread will apply to all most every MK1 owner, but anyone can help.
I replaced the windshield seal, the car still leaks.
What other spots should I look for, Im planning on pulling the dash to see whats up. It still leaks from both corners... The passenger side puddles up pretty quick if its raining fairly hard. I would like to fix this problem before I move to Oregon next May, because it rains 150 days out of the year...
Sorry for my rambling, I guess my real question is what other spots could it leak from other than the windshield seal. It is all coming from each corner under the dash...
does the car have a sunroof?
the water is probably coming from it then, there are drains that run down through the pillar next to the windshield, if they get clogged the water backs up into the cabin(also rusting out right at the bottom corner of the windshield frame)
you need to figure out a way to clear these drains, probably not easy, there are rubber tubes that go from the sunroof frame into the drains under the headliner, you might be able to fish a "snake" down them, but you would probably have to pull your headliner to get at them.
I wondered about that. I can see the drain holes when I open the sunroof and look for them. I will try and fish them out tonight.
make sure your snake is long enough to get all the way from the sunroof down past the bottom of the windshield where your clog will be.
most likely this is going to be a real bear of a job, good luck!

Are the drains in your rain gutter clear?

Yeah, there are. I think it could be the sunroof... I might end up taking out the dash and doing a water test... I need a few nice days here, its going to snow tomorrow.
Thanks for the help guys.
make sure you check the raintray and the holes in the firewall because they are giving me trouble.

a little aluminum tape works well to fix leaks there (once located). had the problem on my '87 golf when my sister owned it.
Just a side note, if you have moving vent windows check the gasket around them... In my MK1 they leek like a hundred year old battleship  .... That could be some of the water in the floor
