Door swap question
« on: April 02, 2009, 02:56:37 pm »
I know its in the wrong section, but I fgigured I would get a faster response here.  I will delete it later.

Question:

Will doors from a 4-door big bumper jetta be a direct fit replacement for doors on my small bumper 4-door golf?  Going to look at some tonight.  They are rust free and only 25 bucks each.  Thats way cheaper than doing rust repair.

Pertty sure they are the same. You'll get upgraded big windows as well, which is nice. Make sure they come with the glass and mirrors or you'll have to find that (fronts only)

The only difference is the location of the mirrors and the molding is probably different. I'm using 91 Golf doors on my 85 Jetta coupe. I like the location of the mirrors better on the newer ones.

I don't think you can delete your thread after people have posted.
Everyone looks at all the threads so in the future i wouldn't hesitate to post in General something like this.  :D

Well I went to look at the doors. 2 different sets actually.  The first ones were shells.  They had the glass, but thats it, all the trim, mirrors, window guides etc were all gone.  They were rust free though, not a spot.  2 fronts and 1 rear.  25 each.  Problem is I do not have old big window doors to pull off all the stuff to swap over.   2nd set was advertised as complete front doors, excellent condition. 75 each.  Went to look at them.  Rust free, and complete, but...... Both mirrors busted, the control for the mirrors only kinda worked, bunch of the trim was dicked up and or missing, door pockets both had big cracks in them etc.  So I am still looking.  I guess if I find some rusty doors with good trim I could get the cheap shells and swap.  Looks like I will need more time on craigslist and some phone calls to the salvage yard.
