I Made Adapters to bolt on 11" Rotors For MK1

So, I've been thinking about doing this for a while. I had these rotors sitting around and wanted to use them in the summertime with my 15" summer wheels. It was important to not have to do anything with the calipers except move them out with the adapter and back for the winter time. For me, this took quite a few more hours to make than I thought. Hope this inspires you guys to give it a shot yourselves. 8)
Cheers,
-JB

So you just made the adapters and bolted your stock calipers on with 11" rotors? Did you have 10.1" rotors before? Looks good makes me wanna go build some now.

Yeah, the current calipers are 54mm pistions with Hawk HPS pads. The 10.1's that I slotted really do stop quite well, but I  wanted to see if I could improve things a little more  8) .
Did ya ever get an idea in yer head and you thought about it more than you should? These adapters were kinda that way for me. Unfortunately, I finished these Sunday and had knee surgery the next day, so I haven't had a chance to bed-in the brakes yet.

ok, so why would you want bigger brakes on a rabbit? i have STOCK brakes on my car, and it will straight up lift the ass end of the car off the ground if i stomp on the brakes hard enough. i know i wouldnt want to stop any faster. it actually stops alot sooner than some cars with ABS. its nice having good brakes with soo many deer/elk/***ty drivers around.. i found out the rear lifts up because some HUGE motor home pulled out in front of me and took up the whole intersection. there were deep ditches on either side of the road, so that was kinda not an option. so i took my chances with the brakes. and to my surprise, my rear wheels came up off the ground, and when it set back down, my car was quite sideways. needless to say i got out of my car and stood in front of the motor home until i was done telling off the driver..

one of the reasons for bigger brakes is to keep them from fading when using them lots, the larger mass takes longer to heat up, and the larger surface area helps in cooling.

while the stock brakes do stop very well, they will fade pretty fast when used lots, like going down hills, racing etc...

ive never once felt my brakes fade on me. but i do use alot of engine braking. and im not very hard on them. usually only apply light pressure unless i need to stop really quick. i dont doubt that they will fade. ive done some pretty crazy chases, off road and on road racing and just driving in general. and i know ive had those rotors hot too. like so hot that the wheel was way hot to the touch. rotor and pads were smokin.. and they still didnt seem like they were fading.

Larger brakes are an awesome upgrade.

Problem is the one time you feel them fade will be the time you need them not to.

I upgraded to 11.3 on my mk2 and Passat disk's on the rear then the 22mm master. I used the HUGE Audi G60 dual piston calipers also. Braking was much better over all.

I want to be the one in control, if I need my big brakes I don't want to know I needed them or wish I had upgraded in the middle of trying to avoid some other dork.

To each his own but bigger brakes are an absolute must on anything you make faster, it's an area that is over looked WAY to often.
